[Crucifixion of St. Andrew, from a Mediaeval manuscript]

Saint Andrew's Day — November 30th

St. Andrew is revered as Scotland's patron saint, whose feast day, November 30th, is celebrated as a national holiday.

According to the Gospel of Mark, Andrew and his brother, known as Simon Peter, were fishermen on the Sea of Galilee, who became the first of Jesus' twelve disciples. St. Andrew's symbol is the X-shaped cross upon which he was crucified, known in heraldry as a saltire, and as St. Andrew's Cross. The national flag of Scotland displays a white saltire upon a blue background.

Scottish-themed worship services are held in many churches around the world near that date.
