About the Band
For more than 25 years, The Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band has been thrilling audiences at parades, concerts and Highland Games with the traditional music and spectacle of the Great Highland Bagpipes and Drums.
The band has more than 20 pipers and drummers from Cape Cod and the
Old Colony region, and presents the best of traditional pipe band repertoire.
Leading the Band are Pipe Major Joe Gaska, and Drum Sergeant Al Hoyt.
Highland Light fields a Competition Band,
which was awarded a Grade IV ranking in 2001.
The Band
The Band's beginnings can be traced to the early 1970's, when Bill Brittain, considered the band's founder, taught an evening class in introductory piping at
Dennis-Yarmouth High School. The Band had its first public appearance
at a parade in Falmouth in 1978. Two of the original members are still active
with the band.
The Band takes its name from Cape Cod's own Highland Light, a lighthouse
in Truro. Literally spanning decades, the band's eldest member is a retired
minister, while the youngest is a middle school student.
We welcome all inquiries into performing at your event, be it a parade, concert
or private function. We are available either as a full Band or a Mini-Band.
